At Sunbury Community Hospital & Outpatient Center we provide exceptional images so your physician can receive quality results to make a diagnosis and detect problems in their earliest stages, which can often mean a cure.
We offer a full range of imaging services as well as timely appointments and precise, rapid results. Our licensed technologists use state-of-the-art equipment to perform a variety of imaging procedures. Test results can be faxed directly to your physician.
Bone Mineral Density Testing (Screening for Osteoporosis)
Sunbury Community Hospital & Outpatient Center has taken an active role in the screening for osteoporosis. We are able to perform DEXA scanning with our Hologic Unit that offers accurate test results and annual measurement/evaluation of drug therapy effectiveness for those on medication for osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is considered the silent disease because bone loss occurs without any symptoms. It is a condition in which the bones in your body begin to weaken and become brittle. In the United States, approximately eight million American women and two million men are affected by the disease.
Computerized Tomographic Scanning (CT Scan)
CT stands for computed tomography, an x-ray technique that allows doctors to study cross-sectional views of the head and body through the use of an x-ray scanning device linked to a computer. This machine, called the CT scanner, makes it possible to see small anatomical structures and notice subtle differences in healthy or diseased tissue.
General Radiology & Fluoroscopy
In addition to diagnostic X-rays, we also use digital fluoroscopy to evaluate the entire gastrointestinal tract. Diagnostic X-rays require no appointment or preparation, but fluoroscopy procedures require special preparation and an appointment.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to see soft tissue almost anywhere in the body. The remarkable image clarity of MRI is especially helpful in diagnosing cancer, cardiovascular disease, brain and spinal disorders, work and sports related injuries and diseases of most organs.
Mammography
Mammography is a low dose x-ray examination of the breasts that can detect many cancers before they can be found by physical examination. Our mammography services are fully accredited by the American College of Radiology. Our staff is devoted to providing prompt, private, personal and compassionate care in an atmosphere that has been designed with women in mind.
The American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute and the American College of Radiology strongly recommend the following mammography screening guidelines:
Ages 50 and over--annual mammogram
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of biologically safe material tagged with radioisotopes that localize in specific organs. These isotopes make it possible for a gamma camera to acquire pictures of the organs of interest. Nuclear medicine scans are procedures used to help diagnose diseases of the thyroid, bone, lung, liver, gallbladder, kidneys, heart, and blood vessels.
Ultrasound
Based on the same concept as sonar, ultrasound for medical diagnosis uses harmless sound waves to create a dynamic image of internal organs and tissues. The combination of imaging and doppler ultrasound is called duplex imaging. By utilizing duplex ultrasound, we can determine the location and severity of blocked vessels, thus assisting in the treatment of vascular patients. Ultrasound is being used more and more with invasive procedures such as needle biopsies and cyst aspiration.
