NEW HIP REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE EXPLAINED
Community invited to learn more about minimally invasive procedure
Hip replacement surgery just got easier at Sunbury Community. The new procedure called the anterior approach to hip replacement is being offered as an alternative to standard hip replacement surgery. Hip replacement surgery has historically been a tremendous undertaking for the patients, who often have permanent restrictions placed on them even after a successful surgery.
At Sunbury Community Hospital, Dr. Brian Batman, of the SUN Orthpaedic Group, has a new way to perform hip replacement that allows the patient to experience less pain, less scaring, fewer post surgery restrictions, and a quicker recovery time.
To perform the procedure, a new table was purchased for the operating room and Dr. Batman had extensive training on the equipment and procedure itself.
Dr. Batman and Sunbury Community Hospital will be sponsoring an upcoming presentation to provide community members the opportunity to learn more about this new procedure.
The next presentation will be Wednesday, May 26, 6pm at the Garden Terrace in Elysburg.
“With the anterior approach to a hip replacement, we no longer restrict patient’s activities after surgery. What that means is that there are no more wedge pillows between the knees, no bending restrictions, and often times no walker.”
